Locomotive on Amtrak ‘Texas Eagle’ derails

There were only 46 passengers on that train? Is that a misprint? No wonder Amtrak is in so much trouble. A modern bus can hold 50.

I was on this train a week ago and there way more passengers than 46 by San Antonio. It was packed from Chicago to St. Louis, less so from there on.

The train is daily between Chicago and San Antonio, but there is a thru sleeper and maybe coach 3 times a week to CA on the Sunset Limited from San Antonio to L.A. The 46 passengers may be accurate because so many get off at Dallas, Fort Worth, and Austin, for example. Or, it may be a typo.

Robert J. Mc Guire. I wonder if you’re a former Police Commissioner for NYC? I realize that there are alot of tea partiers in Maine. I think that it was your governor who had a mural about workers in the unemployement department. Anyhow, this passenger count was for the people left on the train. How about how many people boarded the train in Chicago. So, that count you don’t report on. But then again, that’s something like your mid-west counterpart, who we all know and love?, Goosie!

Is this train 3 days per week each direction?

This article is woefully lacking in hard information, but is still better than the three or four paragraphs on the derailment that were in the San Antonio newspaper. (At least Trains mentioned that it was train 21, the Texas Eagle. That did not appear in our newspaper.) Most newspapers have no one on staff who knows the basics of railroading, and their reporting shows this lack of expertise.

Maybe 46 connecting passengers to the sunset Limited. I doubt there were that few passengers on the entire trtain.
