Hi i got my first N scale loco about a month ago, i am yet to build my layout (still saving up) when i get it built how many cars should i expect it to pull? the loco is a atlas gp7. do you have any tips on how to get the most pulling power without heavily modifeing the loco ? thanks in advance. I am an HO guy, so I don’t know how much that N gp7 will pull. I do know however, that with all scales. More weight in the engine = more pulling power. You can put too much wieght in an engine, but I dont think it will be a problem for N scale.
dont think you will really know how many cars you can pull until you actually load up the track and try
If there is a train show (GATS) in your area take the unit with you and ask for help from a club that has a layout at the show. Here in indianapolis we have many requests form buyers that want to know about their puchases. If there is a Ntrak club where you are located they will give you a lot of information.
Your N scale Atlas GP7 should pull 10 to 15 cars easily on a level track.
If you want to pull even more cars,add another Unit.
