Rail Power shells custom painted and kit bashed in the following locomotive types:
GP60: 17(split between GP60B & GP60M); SD60: 9; SD60M: 14.
All locomotives are split between Burlington Northern, Santa-Fe, BNSF, Conrail, UP, Montana Rail Link, DMIR, SOO, Northern Pacific, CBQ, OWY and Great Northern with the majority holding the ATSF and the BN roster-wise. And six locomotive types and 20 locomotives are home to my fictitious railroad. That’s it! Wheeeeew!!!
If you’re thinking that you may have too many locomotives, you might click on a recent (and I think still active) discussion we’ve been having about our locomotive rosters. I think you’ll find that in a large part, you’re in pretty good company.
Perhaps you are wondering if its “ok” to have locos with so many different roadnames? If so, my first thought is “its your RR, and you can do what makes you happy”. Is it realistic??? Well, that depends… if you are modeling an area where the roads in question cross, then I guess it is.
I model the ATSF in the '50s, and have mostly the appropriate ATSF locos. However, I have a very soft spot for the IC, and have some steamers, E units, GPs, and switchers. The two roads rubbed rails with each other in Joliet, Illinois, but my layout is situated more in the central US/Texas, so my configuration is obviously ficticious. But like I said, its my RR and I’ll do what I want!
I didn’t see a question in there, but if my count is right you have listed 399 locomotives. A fairly large fleet, but not that unusual. I think to be a very large fleet there would need to be another digit in that number. See the link below.
I didn’t realize Proto-2000 had ever made any GP60s I’ll have to look some of those up. I want some but had been balking because I didn’t really like the Athearn model.
It seems kind of obvious to me that the OP started a new topic by mistake instead of replying to the other thread. [%-)] Being a new poster it can be a very easy mistake. Thats a nice collection you got there.
As I am new in the Forum, I am not new to the hobby. Just wanted to clarify about my mis-spoken phrase, " loaded question…let’s rephrase that to loaded subject". And with the Proto 2000 GP-60’s, they made in the Santa-Fe 3 of them. I don’t have product #'s but looking at my roster for the Santa-Fe, the road numbers are as follows: 4023, 4028 and 4034. These Proto 2000 locomotives were produced before Walthers took over. They also did 4 numbers in the BNSF patch; 8720, 8736, 8727 and 8739. I model the time period 1990-1995, roughly. The pinnacle of before the railroads starting to get merger mania. But I do enjoy collecting some of the neat looking locomotives post-mergers as well.
I’d also like to thank those of you for the warm welcome into the Forum, as I am new here. I look forward to many future chats about various subject matters. And even though I am not a rivet counter, I pretty much reflect upon the banner that Model Railroader had across their magazine in the early 90’s after I got into the hobby, Model Railroading Is Fun!!! Thanks.
