I received news today that Union Pacific Railroad will be hosting an Open House at the Jenks Shop in North Little Rock, Arkansas. This will be held in conjuntion with the North Little Rock Centennial. The NLR Centennial will be held April 30 to May 1, 2004. The Open House at the Jenks shop will be Sunday May 2, 2004, beginning at 12 noon and lasting until 5 pm. The Jenks shop is located on Pike Avenue and close to 4th Street. You can’t miss the Jenks shop as the Centennial 6938 sits right in front of the Jenks shops.

At the Open House UP will be serving free Hot Dogs and drinks and have balloons for the kids. There will be public tours of the Repair Shop, Equipment Displays and Yards. North Little Rock Centennial and Union Pacific souvenirs will be for sale.

Other attractions include Diamond Rio, Robert Shields, Kenneth Jackson and Mary Steenburgen and hubby Ted Danson. Many of you already know that Mary Steenburgen is a native of North Little Rock. She is also Honorary Chair of the celebration. The movie “End Of The Line” was filmed in and around the Central Arkansas area and stared Mary Steenburgen and Wilford Brimley.

The Celebration boasts 4 stages and 75 acts. Bass Pro Shops will have an Exhibit – “King of the Bucks”. There will be “State Fair Carousel & Rides”, Animal Station, fireworks and much more. Sounds like a fun time for all, especially us train fans. [:D] [8D] [;)]

Jeez free hotdogs, drinks and you get to see the shops!

I wish something like that was going on over here.

Nazi Southern doesn’t even let you in the shops for Railfest like CR used to much less open one for anything else.

Wish I could be there. A relatively short drive from here, but I don’t really have the time or money to go. So close yet so far. Be sure to enjoy it for me though!

I recall durring a Railroad convention in the late seventys we in Moncton
toured the old and long gone CN Rail shops which did everything from building
Cars to tottaly rebuilding locomotives from wrecks.I recall the shop as wish we
had a video camera.Railroads today are insurance worried as security worried.

Thanks jhhtrainsplanes, it would be great to attend another railroad oriented open house, and the web pages http://www.uprr.com/aboutup/history/jenks/ have already whetted my whistle about the layout, and I’m as interested in being there as the last EMD open house&engine plant tour of 9/87, their 75th aniversary. I know that the PR shop will have a lot of local content, I wi***o be able to get a tee-shirt, ball cap(not low profile), and mug, along with the other goodies. EMD allowed free roaming access to the engines, using the regular boarding ladders, which are a user friendly appliance, to the product. History, in the making, Enjoy Your Hobby!AJ\Backyard.
