Locomotive Squeak

I have a Life-Like GP38 locomotive that has developed a squeak in the motor area. It also seems to be running ‘warm’ as you can feel what seems to be excessive heat in that area compared to some of my other units. The engine was picked up at a swap meet and ran OK for a few days. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Sounds like the motor bearings are dry, Time for a lube job.

That squeak can be translated into English as, “Quick, put some (fill in lubricant of choice) any place that metal contacts metal.”

I’ve been pulling locos out of storage, some out of service for as long as 30 years. Without exception, every one has needed complete cleanup and lubrication.
