Locomotive years

Does anyone know of a website that has the years the different Locomotices were built.

Here is one resource website:

Try this site.

The Union Pacific Historical Society www.uphs.org posts links to both steam and diesel rosters with acquisition and deactivation years for each engine. I’m sure other societies do the same.

Depends on what you’re after. Could you be a little more specific?

Each railroad ordered their “first” of a given configuration when the time was right for that railroad. So, while the PRR built its first 4-6-2 K4 starting in 1914 (I think), others did that configuration later/sooner? So, you’ll probably have to go to the historical sites of several railroads to get your answers.

However, if you want to know when K4s #1361 was built…whew! You’ll need access to special archival material, I think. Most sites will tell you when X company bought or made their first type A, but a list of when each individual loco was built will be hard to track down on the net.

SWP - With regard to diesels, the sort of listing that I expect you are looking for will be found at:

I don’t believe such a site exists listing steam, as the situation was much more complex.
