A shortline would most likely want something with four axles, no turbo, and cheap, plentiful parts. That would be GM all the way.

thanks guys… would a SD38 be shortline material, say for a larger shortline?
any locomotive can be shortline material… as long as the tracks can hold up under a bigger 6 axle engin
