Could someone let me know what kind of equipment is use to test run the locomotives, in Model Railroad Magazine?
Voltmeter, ammeter, and probably a spring scale. Nothing too special…I’ve done the same tests on my own locos. The voltmeter tells you the starting and running voltages, the ammeter goes inline for starting, running, spinning and stall current, and the spring scale gives you drawbar pull at the point of wheelslip.
I think MR may use a different method to calculate wheelslip, but my measurements seem to jive with theirs, +/- a little.
