Locomotives with special paint schemes

This may be a big and somewhat general question but how many locomotives have special or different paint schemes.
Last week I saw UP 2002 with Salt Lake Olympic paint scheme and it got me thinking, how many are there. I mean UP alone has several special paint locomotives. Theirs 3 unpatched C&NW locomotives, maybe a hundred or so unpatched SP Locomotives, the George Bush unit, the 6 Heritage units, the afore mentioned Olympic unit, is the United Way engine still around, back in the 90s I saw a Desert Storm unit, is it still around? I’m sure I missed a few please correct me. And some of the other companies have special engines, like BNSF has a Maersk/Sealand unit and a bunch of BN units and Santa Fe units….
So how many can you come up with and where have you seen them lately.
I’m really looking for one of a kind units but anything will do.

I saw UP 2002 Salt Lake Olympic unit in Clinton Iowa westbound on March 10

The Desert Storm unit was repainted back to UP colors, then sold some time later.

csx 699 the diversity ge locomotive.was going eastbound on sunday at hamler ohio,
stay safe

Darn, I missed that one. I really need to get down by the tracks more often. Having to work for a living sucks…[:(]

I once saw the 2002 in 2002, powering the Olympic train carrying the Olympic torch passing westbound through Mesa on the UP Phoenix Line. I wish I had my camera with me at the time!

I’ll see your Olympic unit and match you one. [:D]

Taken in 85’ at the Oakland engine terminal

The CNW’s are a normal scheme…not special. People wanna see them because they are the last ones left. (im one of them)
There are WAYYYY less than 100 unpatched SP units. 15 at the most.
The Maersk units NS and BNSF had have been repainted.
There are 2 Olympic units.
The BN and SF units arent special either, as far as special scheme goes.
CSX has many “Spirit of…” units.
Most railroads have a Operation Lifesaver unit.
WC/CN has a AWESOME Sesquintennial Unit, with a map along the whole body. They also have a Heritage unit.
The Bandits are cool to see.
NS has a Southern GP38 and GP30 High Hood.
One DWP unit left.
WSOR anniversary unit.
VIA RAIL Buddweiser and Telus units.
Amtrak Tundra unit, was repainted I think.
The North Shore Scenic Railroad and Lake Superior Railroad Museum where I work also have a brand newly repainted GP30 in Soo Line, and GN NW5, aweosme paint job.

So far in my travels I have only be able to come across the SLC loco @ Colton CA & the CNW lifesaver loco @ Gibbon NE [:)]

Of course, we can’t forget the dozens of Bi-Centennial paint jobs that occurred around 1976.

O! I thought he meant recent! Well, here is in general:
Well, of the top of my head,
DMIR had a ISO 9001 unit,
EJE has some DMIR units in DMIR but with EJE on the end.
BN had a COOL Heritage unit.
SP Kodachrome.
BNSF-CN unit.
BNSF has on GP60M in an odd dark scheme.
BN had 4 SD70MAC Lime green units.
CN has two ex Conrail C40-8W’s all blue with the CN noodle on the side.
Southern had a SW9 “rambler”
CSX had a George H. Bush loco
Amtrak had a John Kerry unit.
Thats all of the top of my head that I can rememebr.

How are you on the middle of the school day max!!!

James

Sorry not part of the forum.

Well, that would be because im home sick.
Might I ask the same of you?

we can not forget the Vomit Bonnet of the BNSF and 9400 also has chrome handrails.

Actually, NS still has it’s MAERSK SD40-2 in MAERSK colors, and the BNSF SDF40-2 was still in MAERSK when it was sold to the group that owns the Amtrak Operation Lifesaver F40PH. It’s still in MAERSK today, just with the MAERSK blanked out.

Actually the Lime green MAC’s the BN had were the SD60MAC demonstrators they used to try to sell the AC technology they built in conjuncture wit Siemens. Remeber the old PC units with the red or orange P or C?

AHH, SD60MACS…I want a model of them…

Here’s an obscure one Delaware & Hudson RS3M 506. As 1976, she ran for many years in the D&H’s Preamble Express inspired bi-centennial paint scheme. While U23B 2312 (briefly 1776) got a quick repaint. 506 is a survivor, though, you can see her on the Tioga Central RR, out of Wellsboro PA. I had the pleasure to have chased 506 east out of Buffalo on the former Erie to Portage viaduct. At that time she had a great WABCO one note honker on her, which was a literal blast from the past![:p]

I believe this particular unit is now on the Wisconsin & Southern, if someone can find me a number I can check.

WSOR 4025 is one awesome-looking unit! Their paint shop also did the three UP Heritage units (with more to come) and the GHW Bush unit. And now that I think of it, the Olympic units too!

Santa Fe had a Maersk GP60M for a very short while. Shame that BNSF painted theirs on a soon-to-be-retired unit… At least NS still runs theirs!

WC 3026 (Sesqui) and 3027 (five-flags) look great, though '27 could stand a little attention on those flags last I saw…

Then there’s Canadian Pacific 8642

I love all of the SOO/CP GP38-2s and SOO SD60s too!!!

It’s amazing all the cool stuff I’ve seen in Wisconsin! [8D]

The Sesq was here last June and I MISSED IT!!!

What are you talking about? I’m amazed with how much misinformation you post.
