ive allways wondered what the masses like ( loco wise )
Of course, in addition to the GG1, there were the P5A and E44…
Ughh.
what are you ughhing about?
From a sheer visual point of view (i.e. motion), the Shays - hands down. Big Boy and Challenger a tie for second.
Tom
I love the way the SD40’s sound.
A Greasley A4
You skipped my favorite…the BQ23-7. [:D]
Hehe.
Other:
SP Cab-Forwards (especially the AC-6)
MIssabe Road M3-4 Yellowstones.
Rio Grande L-105 Challengers
NP/SP&S Z-series Challengers
Rio Grande F-81 2-10-2
Rio Grande 3-cylinder 4-8-2
Rio Grande C-45 2-8-0
SP MT-2,3,4,5 4-8-2

I enjoy running Santa Fe 4-8-4 Northerns or the 2-10-2. I just like steam for change once in a while.
All engines have something good about them, I hate big boys, but watching one move with all those rods moving would be so freakin awesome!
High hood SD40-2
I think Tommy (oscaletrains) is looking for more elaboration of why you chose the one you did. Or, to put it another way: Why is [that particular locomotive you chose from the list given by the originator of the post above] interesting to you?..
Tom
High hood SD40-2, it has it’s own unigue look from all the other EMD loco’s up to that point.
Visually, the Shays but I had to vote for the Alcos because the RS2 is by far my favorite engine of all time.
Cheers!

my favorite is Beyer Garretts. talk about a wacky looking locomotive. they are interesting looking locomotives. if you don’t know what they are just do a google search for them and you will find them. they are mostly used in South Africa, Australia and a few other foriegn countries. as for US engines the Shay/heisler/climax are my favorites.
My druthers for "other"s:
Northern Pacific 4-8-4 “A” class - the first northerns !!
DMIR 2-8-8-4…or 2-8-8-2 (love those little tenders)
Burlington “Shovelnose” Zephyr engine and cars - not the Pioneer, but late-thirties non-articulated train.
Nice slide-valve 20th century 4-6-0, like NP 328 (still in fantrip service).
I have to go with the P42, i know its a tube but i love it!
I like anything with moving parts, that’s why diesels suck…except for my Power Stroke.
SD40-2.
