the 110 is the same as the 4 it was biult fro the rayonier logging inc.

haveing ridden her several times. tshe can pull a 5 caar rain on 1.5 percent grade just fine. there practiclly sister mallets

When I rode behind 110 at the BHC, she pulled 8-10 cars (guessing). I don’t remember exactly what the grade was but I think it was about 4%.

Better still, Chris Baldo had previously acquired an equally significant Baldwin logging Mallet, former Deep Creek No.7, ‘Skookum,’ a highly rare 2-4-4-2 with slide-valves and a capped stack. That engine has been slowly undergoing a full rebuilding, part of the work going on at the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad in Garibaldi, and the balance at Mt. Rainier Scenic’s shops.

Landon, the BHC has a max grade of 6%.

Interesting to me is the sudden trend of running 2-6-6-2 Mallets. 10 years ago 110 was the only 2-6-6-2 Mallet running (and I believe the only Mallet in the world running.) Now 4 runs as well and there are plans for C&O 1309 and Rayonier 8. What gives?

Regarding the comment about Deep River #7, the “Skookum”. None of the work to return this locomotive to operation is being performed at or by the Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad. The #7 was once at MRSR, which causes some confusion. Scott Wickert, president of the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad, is doing part of the work at his shop in Centralia, WA, and the rest at the OCSR facility in Garibaldi, OR.
