Logo Drawing

I’ve been trying several ways to draw the logo for my new railroad (free-lanced) and I want it to be something like the old NP “donut” logo with wrap-around text. But I’m having trouble finding a program to do it in, without a lot of eyeballing or trial and error. What program(s) make this easier or how would I do it in Microsoft office?

First off, haven’t seen you around…welcome to the forum!

As to your question, by using the text and drawing tools in Microsoft Excel you can form words into a donut shape. I did my logo that way (my avitar)…though I should redo it better.

I started with the logo for the Belfast & Moosehead Lake RR…

and opened it in Microsoft Paint. I carefully colored out the wording and filled the background color in. Then I saved it and copied it. Then I opened Excel and pasted it. Then I opened the text and drawing tools and went to town. You’ll notice that I reshaped it slightly while I was at it too.

Give it a shot!

Saaaaaaaayyy there ! ! ! Isn’t that the logo that the city of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, has on all their vehicles??? Isn’t that plagiarism??? or Moosehead beer?? or just about every second logo in Canada, there’s something about the goofiest looking animal in North America that Canadians love.

There are several programs out there to do drawing work in. A lot of people use the MS office package to do the work as it is what they have available to them. I have seen a lot of nice jobs done this way including what Philip did with his. Most decal producers work with vector based drawing programs as they are scalable easier and detail work is easier to do. my preference to do drawing work for logo’s is Adobe Illustrator and Autocad. I have done design work with both programs for about 10 years now. Corel Draw is also another good program. The problem is the learning curve is fairly steep and the cost for these is somewhat high. There have been other programs suggested that can do a good job for a lower price but, I don’t have the names of them handy. One thing to keep in mind is, there is no program that will do the work for you.

I don’t think so. I’m not trying to sell it or anything with that logo on it. It’s just for me and my little old model railroad in the spare bedroom.

The thing is I’m an engineering student and I’m quite familiar with MS as far as data entry and papers, but I haven’t done “art projects” in it since high school, an I couldn’t find the wraparound thing in publisher and word. I tried drawing a logo in Paint but I don’t have the touch to change every single pixel of color around a circle. Thanks for your help.

Autocad will do text in an arc around the perimeter of a circle. It can then be converted to a pdf or other file format. I have autocad and if you can sketch what you want I might be willing to give it a go.

Well that was easy, I just put it as my avatar, wish I would have thought of that earlier. Thanks again.

Tatans , carefull that has been my nickname for years. It was one of ones we could tell the pulic about in the fire hall. LOL
