Help- my youngest is crying- the train won’t go backwards and his whitle won’t blow. PowerMax Transformer- any help?

Give the Toy Train forum thread a try, probably get a better chance for an answer there.
Did you buy this train from a local hobby shop or dealer?
Might give them a call.
My first advice would to be check all of your wiring connections.
I assume this train is “O” Gauge Lionel?
Carefully pick up the engine and look on the underside for any loose wiring, or bad solder connections.
To try and troubleshoot, the directional problem, disconnect the wires qat either the track or the transformer terminals and reverse them.
I am not sure about the whistle problem and how to troubleshoot it.
However , put this question on the Toy Train thread, you’ll see it at the top of the Trains.com thread forums, it’s the first one.
Anyone else on the forum that might be able to help this person?

Okay first reverse your wires on the transformer that may be the cause for the whistle .
next after trying whistle take engine off the track and see if there is a switch underneath ( some have 2 ) throw one and see if it reverses if not ( it might have been the one for smoke if you have that you need to either turn it off or keep fluid in it as it will burn out if not kept with fluid in it) switch the other see if this helps only other idea is that maybe your eunit went out not thatr hard to replace just need to do some soldering.
