LoK Sound Question

Hey folks,

I am trying to put sound sound into a Stewart VO-1000. I managed to shoehorn a Soundtraxx Speaker in as I was plannning on doing a Soundtraxx decoder. Since starting this project LoK sound released sounds for the Baldwin swithers so I want to use one of thiers instead. I cant find a Lok sound speaker to fit into the switcher. Can I short across the speaker leads with a 90k ohm resistor on the soundtraxx speaker to get it to work with the lok sound decoder?

Thanks!

No.

The 90 ohm and the 8 ohm in parallel together as you have stated will give you a very low impedance and the resistor will take most of the load. read very little or no sound.

This is not recommended.

You could add the resistor in series with the speaker to get close to the 100 ohms speaker that the LOOK sound needs, but I have no idea if it will sound good.

Try asking Tony at Tony’s trains.

I tried this with a 28MM speaker, and 100ohm resistor. The volume was reduced a bit, but sounded good.

I eventually made an adaptor so the LOK sound’s speaker would fit in an Atlas’s SD 24 30MM speaker frame’s recess.

I assume you are in HO?

You sure you can’t fit any of their 100ohm speakers in? There new range of micfo decoders for N comes with tiny speakers that will fit in N locos, I am sure those will fit!

Yeah it is HO. Didnt know about the n scale speakers for Lok I will certainly look into those thanks!

There isnt any room in the fuel tank as that is where the screws are for the motor. There is some room in the front of the hood behind the head light. If there is an easier way to do it I am wide open for suggestions.

I only just discovered those N scale speakers myself last week…should be as easy as swapping a light bulb! Or if it’s really tight, may be just those new ‘micro’ line with the speaker already wired, it’s about half the size of the large scale ones…and I think you can get spefific engine sound too to suit your loco…

Give a call to LokSound, they are pretty nice people…may be they will swap the speakers for you free of charge! LOL

Good luck!
