The other day,I was driving on I-55 near downtown Chicago and saw an Amtrak unit running long hood forward at about 45 mph…It looked like an AC4400CW,but I am not sure…It was about 2230lcl or so…Anybody know what train this was?

Was it a train or just one unit. Im guessing the unit was a dash 8.
It may have been a DASH-8,but it was one engine with about 4 or 5 coach cars…I can see a GP or maybe an older SD running long hood forward, but not a DASH-8…

Didn’t GE build some units for Amtrak before the Genisis engines.??. If there is no “Y” you have to run long hood forward. Was this commuter service??
The locomotive being discussed id probably one of the Dash 8-32BWH s that
GE built for Amtrak. Originally known as “Pepsi Cans” for the original colorful
paint scheme. Lately, I have noticed them being repainted into a much more
drab scheme.
Rick,
Where did you get the painting of the R1 Eastbound near Index?
Mac
Leanin’ Tree Card. I think its a new one. Saw it and had to get some.
Couldn’t resist using it.[:D]
IT may have been an hiwatha train getting turned around or going to get cleaned out for a trip back to milwaukee but that. Is just my guess and I’m most likey wrong but then again I may be right. [:)]
Was it a standard cab or a P42 like cab?
