Long Island Rail Road debuts new Harsco spreader/ditcher

Definite resemblance to a Jordan spreader. It’s hard to improve on a proven design.

I saw it traveling south on the rear of a Marquette train at Sparta, Michigan; and then it sat in CSX’s Wyoming, Michigan yard for
a day, or two. Or I saw one exactly like it.

It reminds me of the snow plow called, “Jaws III” which is now either in Greenport or Riverhead.

How about a cab ride?

I saw this piece of equipment going east through Mineola 2 weeks ago. It is a massive piece of rolling stock coupled with two locomotives. The LIRR also has a smaller version that has been stationed at the Hicksville yard. Both are used for maintenance of way as well as snow fighting.
I was told two of these were made, one for the LIRR and the other for BNSF. An operable Jordan Spreader does exist at the Railroad Museum of LI in Riverhead.

Thanks Wayne.

Jaws is in Greenport.

Looks just like the machine ive seen the past few days on the exB&O between Seymour IN and Milan IN, sitting on a siding.

Thanks for the great picture,
