Restore the service. It serves a purpose! Cut out service in Brooklyn and Queens, served by the subway, if you must.

As a frequent rider of the Port Washington Line it would not have taken a genius to know that reducing the number of trains would seriously cut income and ridership on the branch.

Those trains prior to the big cut back in 2010 were alwaysvery well patronized. The result of the cut backs is to drive the people into their cars or away from the city. Now that the Mets are playing baseball are the fans going to want wait an hour to catch a train home. No they will drive or not go to the game.

The ridership on the east end service is greatly reduced because what little service was left they cut it back even more. The ridership is low because the railroad’s schedules are so inconvienent only the truly hardy are willing to ride the trains. There is a bus service that is booming because they offer service to the public. THe Bus company have more and more people riding nevrey day. More and more people are moving to the east end and the myopic political appointees that run make these decisions do nothing but cut service while the private sector bus company is transporting more people than ever. The railroad still hasen’t upgraded the signal system or made any moves to The ridership can’t go up if you cut trains that are patronized.

Gosh, they cut the service and lost ridership as a result. These smart New Yorkers aren’t supposed to make silly mistakes like that! Getting the ridership back after you’ve driven them away isn’t a given, even if you improve service. But this was a result of public-sector think where you raise prices to make up for a decline in business. Then when the business declines further you raise prices again, and so on.

William Hays: The LIRR cut service in Brooklyn & Queens years ago. The results. The Queens Blvd. lines are over crowded. If any thing, they should restore service in Brooklyn & Queens. The problem is they tore down some of the stations!

I feel so bad for the poor people of the Port Washington line who have had to wait an hour between mid day trains. That’s so awful.

Of course, if you compare it to the Port Jefferson line that would be nirvana, considering that intervals on that line can push 3 or 4 hours between trains.

Oh, and anytime I’ve been on a PW train mid day, it has been pretty empty.
