Looking For A Couple Items

I’m putting in a pulpwood operation on the layout. Have lots of pulpwood cars, with and without loads.

I am looking for some kind of log loader with grappling hooks, like they use to load logs. I can’t find anything suitable so far. I also am looking for a portable farm type conveyor, to load sawdust or wood chips up into hopper cars. Can’t find one of them either. Nothing in the Walthers catalog that I could find. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Are you in HO? The GHQ log loader in the Walthers catalog is similar to vehicles I have seen at pulpwood loading areas in northern Wisconsin.

Herpa offers a part that can be added to a deck type truck or platform

and they offer the entire truck as well

The scale scenics conveyor looks like what you’d see on a farm

Walthers also has one meant for coal that might be usable, and their new scrap yard conveyor might be usable too. Those are in the catalog.

Greenway Products has a neat old fashioned conveyor

And don’t forget the old Woodland Scenics white metal kits including a log cruiser which could be a neat feature at a pulp wood facility, even if it was rusted up and shoved into a corner as old retired equipment:

IHC made a Barnhart log loader that is equipped with a pair of tongs. I’ve got one that’s decorated fro the Alamogordo Lumber Co.

Don’t know if that works for you, but I poked around and found a pretty good deal on them, if they still have stock:

Thanks for the replies. I’ll look into thtm.

If your interested in a woodchip loader for gondolas, Traincat Models make a really nice etched brass kit of a woodchip loader. They also make conveyors that you may find work for you too.

They are a little on the expensive side but they are very detailed. I have seen them first hand and am very impressed.
