Looking for A Dash 8-40 CW in Norfolk Southern

I know this has been asked 100 times so I’m going to make it 101 times , I’m Looking for A Dash 8-40 CW in Norfolk Southern if anyone can please ( I have looked on ebay with no luck…

I don’t think anyone believes there are people out there that want to model NS. I was going to do an N Scale NS modern layout because that’s what my son sees when we go railfanning. Without exception, what we see are Dash 9s. Since they are not availible, I am modeling something else.

I purchased this HO scale D9-40CW NS9823 at the Neuse River Valley Train Show here in Raleigh, NC back in October 2006.

Cool I just when to rail days saturday was you there ?

No, this past Saturday I was running errands during the day, and then celebrating my beautiful brides birthday, then we went dancing in Oxford, NC.

I went it was OK but I’ve seen better a few years ago down there…

If you go on walthers it will give you a list of hobby shops that might carry the ns c40-8w. I have been looking for one too!

I actually have a 40-8 in NS paint with sound and DCC. Road #8690. Its made by atlas and i got it a few months ago.

Nice but I’m looking for a Wide Cab

oh… sorry [:(] I cant say ive seen one newhere’s…

hey i was just on atlasrr.com and they are taking orders for what ur lookin for… unfortunatly they arent doing NS, but they are doing conrail. You could just do what NS did when they took over some of CR’s loco’s. just redo the road numbers in black and white.

Atlas did a run of Dash 8-40CWs in July 2005 which included a locomotive in Norfolk Southern livery, but finding it is another problem. I have been trying to find a CSX “YN3” Dash 8 from this same run (with sound and DCC), but no luck so far.

Here’s the page I found them on.

Hope this helps!

I don’t know if you’ve tried painting your own loco before, but why not use a Rail Power shell to make a Dash 8-40CW? You can sometimes find some on ebay for a reasonable prices:

These are HO by the way.

The benefit of this route is gaining skills in painting, detailing, decaling, and ending up with a very good looking engine. I have like 8 different types of RPP models that I need to work on, so I’ve become pretty decent at these skills.

The bad thing is that RPP only gives you a shell and chassis. You still need to buy a motor, trucks, handrails, decals, and details to complete a model. This can get expensive depending on what route you choose to acquire these parts. Also the time it takes to complete one model can be significant.

Sometimes taking on these projects doesn’t seem worth it and it would be easier to just buy one ready-made. But if you’re having trouble finding one, then you now have another option to consider. As I’ve said, I’ve done some myself and have ended up with nice looking models that I’m proud of. Like this one for example:

I’ve not 100% finished but have done some modifications that were needed. I’m almost completely done with it, thankf
