Looking for a great junctions layout/design book.

I think junctions are one of the most important parts of RR, model or real. Its where a ton of activity can happen. I’ve designed a couple using Visio, but am looking to see the imagination (or model prototypical) of what is out there.

If someone could point me to a great book, solely dedicated to ‘101 great junctions’, complete with pictures/graphics and a decent write-up on each, that would be wonderful. [:)]

Thanks in advance.

Crazy,

What about the following book put out by Kalmbach Publishing recently:

I haven’t read it yet but I did glance through it at my LHS. Here’s the web site that I found the above listing on: http://kalmbachcatalog.stores.yahoo.net/12408.html

I agree with you about the junctions. I have two on my layout and both have an Interlocking tower at them.

Tom

Best place to model [:P]… much better than any yard! [^]

You might also go back through old issues of Trains looking at the “Hot Spot” pages.

Things happen at junctions. [:D] Things stand still in yards. [zzz]

I’m only slightly biased [:-^]

tstage, thanks for the link…I think that will be juft fine…I sent the link to my wife for a Christmas gift idea.

Altlas has held this view for many years and created this layout that represents two small railroads crossing each other and a larger (double track) railroad all at the same location. I’ve always liked it from the point of having tons of trains crossing in one point. I’ve not liked that the double track mainline of the 3rd railroad is actually the loops of the other two coming back through the scene. Still if one just wants the scenery of a junction with all the interlocks and control towers in a small space it could be just the thing. OR one could make it multi-level…

To get the full effect one really needs to look it up in the book titled something like “Atlas Custom Line Layouts for HO trains”.
