Looking for Alco handrail stansions

I recently bought a used Atlas Alco RS 1 (I think). It has a Kato Drive, and has a socket for DCC with DC jumpers. It runs sweet! Most the hand rails are missing. I recon the chances of finding replacements are slim, so was wondering if anyone makes stansions, and i can make my handrails from wire?

I am also detailing a Mehano Alco C-415 that I repowered with Atlas and Athearn parts, It runs smoothly too, now. Same sitch. Those funky hanrails (guardrails is more like it) hafta go, Need scale stansions. Anyone know? Dan

The original Atlas RS1’s were made by Kato. Atlas still has some parts:

Not an expert on stanchions, nor do I know the difference between an EMD stantion, a GE stanchion, or an Alco stanchon, but PPW/A-Line sells some. Scroll down on this link: http://ppw-aline.com/detlloco.htm.

A company called Smokey valley also sells handrail kits: http://www.walthers.com/exec/search?category=Part&scale=H&manu=smokey+Valley&item=&keywords=&words=restrict&instock=Q&split=30&Submit=Search

If you don’t find any of the one from Atlas/ Kato, try Smokey Valley Handrails http://www.smokeyvalley.com/

At bottom of page, click view catalog, Kit # 107 to 109 show the Alco road switcher stanchions. I like the stanchions but bend my own .015 brass in one piece, the kit rails come in sections and need splicing @ a stanchion. Soldering is best, but if your skills or equipment isn’t up to par, CA works fine.

You will need to know if you have an RS1 (rectangular radiator on top long hood) or RS3 (round radiator) I believe the end rail detail varies between these.

Thanks, Gents. That helps, I’ll look into these sources. Dan
