I cant remember what issue of MR im looking for that has an article on doing the octagon idea for corners. i know it wasn’t that long ago that I read it.
Inputting the word “octagon” as “title text” in the index of magazines on this site yields the following RMC article that is the one you are looking for, I believe
Octagonal helixes
Railroad Model Craftsman, December 2004 page 88
easy to lay out, eliminates waste
“BROSHEARS, MIKE”
edit: corrected for the word “octagon” I actualy entered to get the reference. The orginal article is about a helix, but could be used for end-curves, too.
hrmm… i’ll have to find that option
I coulda sworn there was an article in MR though… and it wasn’t for helixs it was just for doing corners…
that and I dont think I have that issue as I usually only purchase MR
…perhaps Hexagon?
“Going on the road with N scale, 5’ hexagon N scale”
Model Railroader, May 1993 page 66
( “HURLBURT, MIKE”, LAYOUT, TRACKPLAN, N, MR )
…just grabbin’ straws…
I dont think the article was actually about building a helix. and it may not have been an article on its own, might have been at the end of another article… it was something about building corners without wasting materials, it had some formulas to calculate the peices.
just frustrating cause I know I read it not to long ago… but I dont remember if it was a current issue I was readying. I have pretty much every issue from 2000-current of MR. the only issue of railroad model craftsman that im aware that I have is in front of me and its july/05
I do have stack of older MR as well.
found it… there was another RMC under my bed L its april 2005. and the article is “Curves from straights”
