OK, maybe that’s a little extreme, but I have several locos and pieces of rolling stock that are dirty (dusty) on the outside plastic shells. Tried blasting w/ shop air, but couldn’t really get into all the details. And no, they don’t look weathered - just, well. . .dirty. Anyone have any good recommendations for cleaning these?
I don’t know how much it will work, but go to an office supply store, or even a walmart, and go down either the electronics aisle or cleaning supplies. Look for something called enviro-duster, or something like that. It is basically canned air. It is used for cleaning computer keyboards. Just make sure you hold the can straight upwards, or you will get a film on the plastic.
Isn’t it funny how real weathering doesn’t look real? I don’t weather my locos so I take the shells off and VERY CAREFULLY wash them in the sink with a soft toothbrush. If your not that daring, I also use a soft detail cleaning brush I got from the auto parts store. They’re used for cleaning vents, gauges and stereo faces on car dash boards. I use this to dust my plastic models too.
Just a thought - do you or anyone in your house - smoke? That stuff is nasty to clean!! When I smoked, it took a half hour to clean the inside of my car windows - now it takes 5 minutes!![:D]
