Looking for AntonioFP45

AntonioFP45,

I was told you would likely know the answer to this question:

Does anyone know when the Southern started painting “Gives a green light to innovations” on their boxcars? This is the scheme with the green paint in the center of the ‘O’ in Southern.

Thanks,

Jeff

That is a good question. You could also try the Trains Magazine forum, the prototype area of the MRR forums, Souther Railway Historical societies or clubs, hit up the LHS for a book on the Southern, or try a google search.

Hello Jeff,

According to info I found on www.hosam.com Southern added that logo to their boxcars in 1969.

How well I remember as a teenager in the 1970s seeing the “Gives a Green Light to Innovations” boxcars EVERYWHERE! Especially on 50ft. ribbed plug door units. This has always been one of my favorite logos.

For anyone modeling from the late 1960s thru the 80s, cars in this scheme would fit in the scene nicely.

I KNEW you would be the go-to guy on this!

AntonioFP45,

Thanks for your help. I looked several places and couldn’t find the answer.

Jeff

Hi guys,

Thanks for the compliments, but remember… I read and look through many books, magazines, photos, the web and recollect on some of my personal experiences…just like many of you do.

You’d be amazed at how often in the past I’ve picked up a book, photos, or magazines that someone threw out that contained info I’ve shared here! Several books that I have were given to me by people that knew I was “into trains”.

So, if you happen to come upon some info…don’t discard it. It’s a resource that may help someone needing it on this forum.

Peace.
