Looking for article adding small (1 or 2 car) passenger ops

I know MRR had an article in one of the issues showing small (1 or 2 car) passenger operations from real life. can someone point me to the issue? I tried the issue index for 2009 but couldn’t find it. I tried passenger operations, operating, adding passenger ops, but came up with nothing. It may have even been an Information desk article. I’m thinking it had to be in the last 6 months.

Any help would be appreciated.

Did you go to Resources, Index of Magazines at the top of this page. It supposedly covers all mod rr publications, as long as it has been updated to cover when your article was published.

Good luck,

Several have appeared over the years, search on “pike sized”. It is not in the index - Kalmbach has been negligent in not keeping the index up to date - which was part of the agreement when the got it - but there was another article in the past few months on the same subject.

Are you interested in any particular railroad and era?

My favorite is the N&W Norton Brach, mid 1950’s; which was an E2a Pacific with one to three heavy weight passenger cars.

Perhaps you’re thinking of the July 2008 article on SP’s Gila Tomahawk.

[:-^]

Wasn’t it called “Pike Sized passenger operations” There certainly was an article like that in the last couple of years in MR., with a lot of good examples of short trains in passenger service.

Johnboy out.

Yes, I found them for you. Two articles, Two Issues of MR.

It is the June 2007 issue of MR. Right on the front cover it says,

“Pike-size passenger trains” Seven short prototype trains you can model.

(Both steam and diesel) are covered in the story, on page #42.

The article was written by MR Staff member, Carl Swanson.

Then there was the March 2006 issue, whose cover says Pike-sized passenger trains, 8 short prototype trains you can model.

This article is on Page #60. This story was written by Jim Hediger.

Hope this helps…

Johnboy out…for now.

Johnboy et al, MR also ran a Pike Sized modelling Contest, of which the Gila 'Hawk was in, and a backwoods Hiawatha, pulled by an RS3 won the contest. I;d love to see a list posted of the other entries, even if they didn’t get articles, just to see names to work with.

If you’ve ever picked up Greg Stout’s"Route of The Eagles"or Steve Goen’s"Miss Katy In The Lone Star State",both MoPac and Katy ran some pike size trains that are easy to model.

The Katy.Ran a Local from Dennison to Wichita Falls until the Summer of’59.

Most of the time they ran an RDC3 but when it was out of service, they ran an FP7;Heavyweight Baggage/RPO and Chair Car.

Both are easy to model using RTR Equipment:LL/Walthers makes an RDC 3.I’ve seen a frew painted for Katy at Train Shows here in North Texas but you could look online.

Intermountain makes an FP7 in Katy Scheme while Athearn and IHC/Rivarossi make a Heavyweight Baggage/RPO and both of them as well as Branchline make a heavyweight chair car.

I’ll look up the MP Trains tomorrow./
