Looking For Feedback On NCE PowerCab System

I am thinking about getting one of these systems for my new DCC system. What I am wondering if it has enough power. it says it can run 6 trains… but can it? More or less?

I am currently useing an old MRC Prodigy, the original. It is limited in fucntions, (4) and I know soon they will be hard to come by. An example: I have a controller that is starting short out from use and being dropped by Junior. They are out there, but they are getting hard to find.

I have a good sized layout with over 330 feet of track and that little sysytem does fine. I have had 4 sound equipped engines chuffin away at once and not had any problems. At most I will have would be 4 cabs. Most likely just 2.

Any input would be great [:)]

The PowerCab is advertised as having up to 3 Amps output. How many trains can be operated is going to depend on their individual current draw and how many other items, such as passenger car lighting or switch motors, may be drawing power from the system. For HO or N scale locomotives only, with can motors, 6 engines should put no strain on it at all.

There have been several posts about the PowerCab if you do a search. TSTAGE graciously relayed his experience with it in the following posts:

I’d tell you all I know about it but the above posts will tell you a lot more including amps, extra throttles, etc! [yeah]

Hope that helps.

Wow, thanks for digging that up Glen. I will check those out for sure!
