My wife pointed out to me recently that I haven’t really done much on my layout in the past 6 months and when I thought about it, I determined why. You see, the guys that I was running trains with have either gotten out of the hobby, have young children taking up their time or found something else to do. So, here I am with a layout that is set up for as many as 5 operators and nobody to run trains with. I live in Rocky Hill, Connecticut which is 10 miles south of Hartford.
I am very flexible and don’t want to scare anybody away when I say I’d like to “operate” the layout. I’m not into rigid time schedules, etc. When the guys used to come over, we’d spend an hour “shooting the breeze” and looking at the changes I’ve made to scenery since the last operating session. Then, one guy would run an eastbound local and another a westbound. I’d run passenger trains from staging (Boston to New York and back again) and another guy would operate the yard, making up locals and pulling cars off through freights for local delivery. In a couple of hours we’d break for coffee, etc.
I’m hoping that with this posting I can find some guys interested in coming over. My layout is set in 1959, with the New Haven running through New London, Connecticut and has an interchange with the Central Vermont that comes in from staging.
Please give me some consideration and if you’re interested, let me know. If you email me through this forum, I’ll give you my phone number so we can discuss a day/time convenient to you.
Hi Nutmegger. I live a little too far away, so I can’t visit.
I am planning a layout that centers around the New Haven Union Station. It will have a Shore line as far as New London, where I will also interchange with the CV. I have accumulated quite a few photos of the New London Station and started with the plans, but am stymied by not knowing the dimensions. I have temporariily extrapolated using a sub base submariner standing close to the corner. I am guessing about 5’ 8" and trying to cross check that with the window and door dimensions.
Lou Di Riossi and Bill Lupoli are also modeling the New London station, so if you can be of any assistance I would really appreciate it
I might be able to come if my dad will drive me again. We were able to come last time, but my dad has gotten a lot busier since then so I’m not sure if we can make it.
