If anybody could help me with a trace it would be much apriciated. I am looking for the whereabouts of the 2 Modoc Northern units that are supposed to be on there way here (Modoc), also a ETA for the arival on the MN would be nice. Thanks in advance.
Here is a little more explaination Dave. I am im Modoc right now on what was formerly the SP Modoc line. UP sold the segment from Klamath Falls to Alturas to a new shortline last year, The Modoc Northern, which also took over the former Lake County railroad between Alturas and Lakeview, Or. They recently aquired a pair of SD9s that have been painten in MN colors and are supposed to be on there way out here from somewhere back east (Schenectady) via a stop in Chicago for some mechanical work. Well we here in Modoc are anxious about there arival and would like to know the current whereabouts of the units.
Just a update on the Modoc Northern SD9’s A good buddy of mine who works for CSXT in the chicago terminal was just on these units and shows them to be billed to NRE Chicago, Ill ( Dixmoor ). KenL can you confirm this??? I will be heading to chicago tommorow so possibly I will have more to report in a day or two???
Sounds like it will be a couple of days before they are handed over to UP.
Thanks Dale, Sounds like we have a bit of a wait still. At least they are on there way, The rumors of these units existance were getting so old we were beginning to doubt they would ever show up.
SD9’s MNRR 650 and 651 left Danville, NY, for Chicago to receive new alignment control couplers before continuing out to California, then to Klamath Falls, OR, to to delivered to the Modoc Northern. These SD9’s also have new wheels, new cabs, mechanical upgrades, electrical upgrades, and new fuel saving technology, in addition to their their new paint. They still retain their high hoods as well. Both units are nee to the DMIR.
Dixmoor isn’t too far south of Barr Yard, and the old B&OCT branch down to Chicago Heights passes through it. One can (or could, last time I was there) see a lot of locomotives or pieces thereof around the NRE grounds. The neighborhood isn’t, or wasn’t, very appealing.
