looking for ho log cars for my shay.

just got a three truck shay , i need to get some log cars for this cute engine . i like the real logs for loading , can anybody tell me what to buy??

Good luck on that one, IHC made the best ones and they are now out of production…chuck

Rivarossi used to have nice longer skeleton log cars, complete with plain logs. They came in pairs, I got mine from Trainland. Might be an idea to check out their site to see if they are still available: http://www.trainworld.com/

I picked up a couple of Kadee skeletons at my LHS here in Sydney last week. The plastic logs will need painting or replacing - as bought they look pretty bad. But otherwise the kits looks prettty good. I believe Kadee do the full range - flats with bolters, skeletons, or just the bogies. I just need to find out how many my Bachman Climax will pull up a 5% grade - reckon two if I’m lucky.

Caboose Hobbies still has a few of the Rivarossi road names in stock. See:

http://www.caboosehobbies.com/catalog/advanced_search_result.php?scales_name=HO+Scale&roadnames_name=&alpharoad=&categories_id=&inc_subcat=1&manufacturers_id=832&sku=&keyword2=log&maxrow=50&Reset=Reset!&x=31&y=9

They are RTR and nicely detailed.

Good Luck.

The Rivarossi log cars are being re-released under the new Hornby ownership. Check their web site at http://www.hornby-usa.com

Kadee makes both skeleton log cars and disconnected log buggies. Their web site is http://www.kadee.com

I haven’t seen the Kadee skeleton cars available for several years, but they show them as available on their web site. The disconnected log buggies are also still being made, and I have seen them on the shelf at an Ace Hardware in Tucson, Arizona.

MDC had a 3 pack I believe. They were very reasonable. Check suppliers, they may still have some. I reciently saw some kits that used photo etched detail parts, don’t remember the mfg. but as you can see, there are many around…just have to spend some time looking. Jerry

Build some! They are easy.

I used a piece of Plastistruct rectangular tube. I cut out the ends to accept a Kadee #5 coupler & holder. I mounted a truck on each end and used some appropriate looking Plastistruct pieces for the cross pieces & the uprights to hold the logs in place. Before attaching the trucks, hit them with some black spray paint and you should be good to go. I think I knocked out 4-5 of them in little over a couple of hours. They weren’t too expensive at all either. All you need to do after that is to head out into your back yard and find some appropriate “logs.”

Try it; it’s easy & it’s fun. And you will like the fact that you made them yourself. Keep in mind that in most cases, the logging rrs did the same thing…

I have substantial number of the MDC 3 in 1 kits and have to say that I am very satisfied with the looks.

More so loaded with three or four large bolts…but none the less pretty good for the money.

I have a number of the MDC (3 in 1) kits and feel they realy look good…especily for the money.

Ooppss…I had the one post “go poof” and thought it left for cyberspace.

Sorry.
