I came across a layout in some of the MR mags that speaks of this freelanced layout called the Utah Belt. I would like ot learn more about it as I am going that direction with feeelanced moderen layout. Any websites or past issues to look for? Thanks for all the help[8D]

if no one else posts today with an answer, i’ll go thru my MR mag. collection when i get home from work tonight and let you know which ones it’s in…it’s one of my favorite layouts also…very well done layout…i believe his last name is Bozman but not sure…chuck

The December 2003 issue i think was the latest issue featuring the Utah Belt

Eric Brooman is the owner of the Utah Belt and he models comtemporary railroading. This one is at least his second version and he does marvelous modeling that looks incredibly realistic to me. It is featured in MR on a regular basis. The first article was probably early 80’s and it should be in the index of the magazines
I still can’t believe that Allen Keller never did a video of the 1st Utah Belt, which was an early favorite of mine.
I love the Utah Belt railroad, it’s one of the neatest Freelanced layouts I’ve seen, other than the Virginian and Ohio. I’ve got many of the old UB issues, I try to pick them up whenever I can.

I e-mailed Allen and he said that he would love to do a video of the Utah Belt. Eric Brooman hasn’t given the go ahead as yet so I guess we’ll have to wait until Mr. Brooman is ready for prime-time.
I have the articles that appeard in MR & Great Model Railroads from 1990 until the present.
There are few layouts that I look forward to features of as much as this one. One thing I really like is Eric Brooman mentions he doesn’t have an unlimited hobby budget, and does very nice modeling in more economic ways than many. (kitbashes locomotives built on top of his old locomotive chassis, handmade turnout controls, etc.).
Get your hands on those articles, you’ll enjoy them!
I had been away from the hobby for several years then saw the Dec 2003 issue with his recognizable layout on the cover. Within seconds, I was like, “Here I go again with this model railroading thing…”
I remember finding a webpage on the Utah belt and now i can’t seem to find it but i would recomend gettting any of thosse magazines.

The Utah Belt does not have DCC. Its all Analog.
The guy is a teacher at Hazelwood West HS, and thats how I met him.
