Looking For Info On Vintage Model RR Magazine

Okay, here’s a memory jogger for the older members or those with back issues of model railroad magazines.

I got my first real interest in model railroading back in the early 1970’s when I saw a magazine for sale on a newsstand. The cover featured a photo of a real 35mm camera sitting on a layout with HO men standing around it and climbing up ladders to reach the top of it. The cover fascinated me so I bought the magazine and have been hooked ever since. I’m looking for the date of that magazine issue, I don’t remember if it was Model Railroader or the other guys. The feature article as I recall was how to build a camera designed for tabletop photography. Anyone with any information I’d surely appreciate!

I have the issue of Model Railroader, August 1973. The photo was by the late Ben King for his article on scratchbuilding a roll film camera for model photos. I recall the image because I made a similar photo on my own some time later in a simpler way, with a pinhole aperture in a wide angle lens.

Thanks Bob!

Now all I need is to find a copy for sale on ebay or somewhere (getting nostalgic in my old age)

You can go to the public library and look at the magazine. Most public libraries have a big collection of MR magazines. When you find the article you want, make a copy of it.
