Looking for new loco

Good morning, I am starting to shop on line for a new Atlas loco. I do not know exactly what I want yet, I know I want at least DCC ready. Where are there good places on the internet to shop, I would like to have pics, being that I do not know that much about them. Thanks Mike

While I prefer NOT to shop online, I believe theres a section in MRRM that lists online dealers. One of the popular ones is www.trainworld.com another one is www.firsthobby.com

I’m looking for a new Loco also but when I walk into my LHS and say I’ll take that one they always say, “Show me your money!” Picky-Picky-Picky!!!

Another Question… will a 6 axle Atlas loce have any trouble making it around a 18’’ R curve? Being they have 6 axles, won’t they pull better? Mike

Six axle locomotives will not look right on an 18" radius curve. They will hang way out over the rails when it makes the turn. You may also have problems with them derailing on the curves. Four axle engines would handle that radius much easier.

Yup… HO 4-axlers will work better on 18" curves.

I have an Atlas Master Silver Series B40-8 (Silver series = DCC decoder installed, Gold series = DCC & Sound decoders installed).

The Susquehanna B40-8 I purchased from Trainland. Best $85 I ever spent. Smooth runner, works on both DC and DCC, detail-accurate:

I am still looking for places on line to buy an Atlas loco. Where do you get yours?
Mike

Mike,
I normally do not order engines online. The Atlas engines I have were ordered through our LHS. He gives our club members a discount because we buy so much and there are no shipping charges. Maybe some of the others have purchased online and can steer you in the right direction.

Try 1stplacehobbies.com or MBKleins.

BTW Atlas only makes a few 6 axle locomotives but their 4 axle locos pull just fine and would definetly look better going around 18" curves.

Walther’s handles Atlas locomotive. Here are some links to some of them.
