Looking for old intermodal photos

Good afternoon,

I’m working on a project about the history of intermodal and would like to include some old intermodal photos (i.e steam era preferred) or w/ 1st generation diesels.

If you know of a source of any, I’d greatly appreciate it.
Thx,
Dblstack

Search out info on the PRR’s ‘TrucTrain’ operations as well as the NYC’s ‘Flexi-van’ operations. One of the VHS video anthology series has a segment on the PRR ‘TrucTrain’ operation following a trailer from the Shipper in Chicago to the Consignee in the New York area.

Barnes & Nobel should have several books about railroad freight cars and intermodal available.

Ckeck out the book-

“Piggyback and Containers” by David J. DeBoer

Published by Golden West Books in 1992

One of the earliest trailer on flat car operations was that of the interurban North Shore Line and here is an old photo showing that

Here is C&NW TOFC in the late 1960s

The Reading had early TOFC too

Someone mentioned the Pennsy:

Did U try the UPRR site they have tons of historical pix on it

As mentioned, interurban lines pioneered the use of piggyback TOFC. Other electric interurbans used modular containers that could be lifted from trucks to special flatcars, as early as the 1920s.

Here is a book which is pretty much the standard for interurban history:

Just about any good library should have it. Photos might be a bit hard to find but they’re out there.

Great stuff guys. Thanks a lot. Much appreciated.
