I am rather new to G scale (1 gauge) and want to join up with some others who run outdoor layouts… I looked into the local club (AZ Model RR Society) but they run “non-powered” track which is a problem since I am not going to install battery’s and remotes into my locs… Anyone out here know of a layout that’s electrified?
As a side bar, I am building a small layout at my house, but it’s always more fun to run it with like minded modelers.

I have been to Arizona and I loved it, the desert, the mountains, the people and even the Indians but what i liked most of all was the lackof humdity. I was in Tucson on business some time ago.

I must admit, it’s grown on me… I grew up in the San Francisco area and lived in Atlanta, Georgia for a while as well as Germany… so the desert was a major change… but you’re right, it may hit 100+ degrees, but it’s better than a 85 degree day in Miami!

You have found one. The Az. Central is Track Powered, 1930’s Era, LGB Brass Track, Bachmann Power,Some LGB Equip.,Some Bachmann Equip., Some Scratch Built. All Structures are Scratch Built. Is a Project under Construction All the Time, so is never done. Right now is Spring Fix-up. time for the Water damage from all our Rain but can run any time. E-mail jomar33@msn.com, John

Loved Arizona. Have a weekend away in Tucson. Double K Ranch bed & breakfast. Ken Karrels has two layouts and you can take your own train to run and stay in a Caboose.

There is the Arizona Big Train Operators http://www.azbto.org
Members have their own layouts and some are available to be viewed by the public at least once a year. They have a portable layout they take to places like Railfair at McCormick Railroad Park. Members of that club are all over town.
There is the Desert Division of the TCCA http://www.tcadd.org
I don’t have anything to offer about them. I think I’ve seen their layout at Railfair but that’s it.
Since the club at Adobe Mountain is not an option for you those are all the LS club I know of in Phoenix.

Thanks… I’ll look into TCCA… I’m going to join the ABTO as they seem to be receptive to me… Adobe I’ll join for their DC HO, but the G guys there don’t seem to have any interest in electrification (which is a shame).

Called over there and talked to Ken… sounds like a really nice guy.
I am tentatively planning an October trip for two days, stay at the Caboose, and run my 1 Gauge… I’d go earlier, but the heat is too much in summer and limits the length of the day you can spend at the track.

Train-me… Funny you should say that. This is what I usually tell people when they say “100 degree???” Cause dry heat is a lot more tolerable than the massive amounts of humidity in the Southeast.
