I have been trying to find (without much success) the now out of production Athearn Genesis F7 AB sets (#1524 and #1624). They are painted in the Santa Fe freight scheme and have the cigar band nose herald. The road numbers are 217LABC.
Here’s what they look like:
Thus far I haven’t been able to find these through my usual sources. So If anyone knows where these sets might still be collecting dust somewhere I’d appreciate an email. You can contact me at:
Its a shame you dont want Athearn Genesis F3AB sets because ML Klein has several at REALLY good prices. Sorry, I checked all my sources and knowone has exactly what you want. I keep Genesis bookmarked under HO scale on Ebay just for this very thing.
But the thing is they were somewhat rare on the Santa Fe (freight F3s that is).
I think there were only two sets of ABBA freight F3s on the Santa Fe. 200LABC and 201LABC.
Yeah eBay actually had the 217C and 217B along with a catwhisker F7 just yesterday, but I didn’t bid hoping to one day find all four (217LABC). And had no need for the catwhisker unit.
Thanks for trying to find these though. I appreciate it.
I really appreciate the help. But I actually had some Stewart Santa Fe F3s (freight) and sold them a while ago since I had planned to upgrade to Genesis F7s. It has just been a little tricky finding the Genesis F7s.
I found a 217LA (Athearn 1524) so now I just need to find the companion AB set (217CB)(Athearn 1624)
However I’m wondering if I should now be looking for an F3 AB set.
See from the start I planned to break up an ABBA set and have two short freight trains pulled by an AB lashup. But it might look weird to have two separate trains with very similar locos leading. 217 and 217C. Athearn has not released any other freight F7 AB set in the paint scheme I’m looking for (cigar band nose).
So now I’m trying to find an Athearn Genesis F3 AB Santa Fe freight set. Looking for the 2052A set (200LA).
Looks like this (however the road number is 200 not 200C):
So anyone out there know of any of these that might be found at a good price?
