For those of you that going rail fanning with new HD camcorders; I am in the market for one and if anyone has any recommendations to which may be better suited for documenting trains, I will greatly appreciate you input. My budget is $1000, not much over, and records in 1080p not 1080i, every time I look up a camcorder they never give information on whether it’s 1080i or 1080p. I am leaning towards a Sony, they seem to be best in video but I would prefer your opinions.
Hi,
I dont own an HD camcorder yet,but I do own 3 Sonys…I suggest you look at this website and look at the buyers guide if they have it posted…Sony does have a good HD camera for about 700.00 but there are a lot of good mfgrs out there,I would get a HD Camcorder Not an AVCHD or HDR camera, they are hard drive recording programs and I dont like them personaly…Im from the old school,I prefer tape…Hope this helps…
PS This is not my website and Im in no way affiliated with them…
Get one with good optical zoom, between 5x and 20x if you can.
Digital zoom is terrible and you should disable it immediately when you get the camera. So many Youtube railfan videos are ruined with digital zoom.
