We need some help! We are looking for someone with a blue, non-operating, “Lionel 56” hopper. Only a few of the blue hoppers were manufactured by Lionel for the Boys’ Set. They were N&W hopper, medium blue-painted, black Type III body, bar-end trucks, magnetic couplers; the lettering is similar to that used on the 3456 operating hopper, except it is lettered “Lionel 56” rather than “Lionel 3456”. Why we need help?.. We recently acquired a Black Lionel 3456 hopper - Non-Operating! The common Lionel 3456 N&W hopper is an operating version and was included with the Lionel Post War #456 Coal Ramp. It was also sold separately. Mr. Bruce Greenberg would like to photograph my black 3456 non-operating car alongside the medium blue-painted Lionel 56 hopper at the next York show in October.
