Looking to trade

Would anyone here know a good place “classifieds, etc” I’m looking to trade H.O. DCC items for O gauge items.

thank you

I do not think you will be able to trade. you will probably have to sell and buy.

Am I the only one who is getting tired of that the only place to buy second hand equipment these days are through auction sites? I really like too see an ad, contact the seller/buyer and make the deal. No ridiculuos bid-wars with people who have little, or no, reality-check. In Sweden we at least have classifieds in our own MR forums, only drawback is that there is not so many US stuff for sale there.

Other posters probably correct. Doubt you will be able to trade but may be able to sell and buy. Couple of suggestions.

  1. e-bay

  2. craiglist

  3. contact MR they have places in the mag where you can advertise

  4. local papers , some have “treasure seekers” advertisment sections where cheap adds can be purchased and low dollar items can be sold

Craig’s List (www.craigslist.com) is more local than eBay, and you can swap e-mails with the sellers.

I’d agree that you’ll probably have to buy and sell, though. The odds that you’ll find someone who is in exactly the opposite situation as you are not very high. Worth a look, though.

Talk to your LHS, if it’s a real train shop. Chances are, a good shop owner will know if someone is switching scales. If so, he could put you in touch.

Trainboard also has an online For Sale board:

http://www.trainboard.com/trainstore/

Trainboard itself is donation-supported, and maintains a forum and photo-hosting site.

There are a number of forums that include a “Trading Post” section. The ones I’m familiar with provide that as a service to regular members, so you usually have to achieve a minimum post count before you have access to it (sometimes as little as 10 posts, usually around 25).

They do this to protect themselves from non-members randomly drifting through to just post sale items.

Since MR doesn’t let us link to other forums, you’ll have to do a google search, or just PM me, and I’ll send you a couple of links that might be helpful.

If you have enough stuff to sell, you could look at getting a table at a RR flea market, sponsored perhaps by a local model railroad club…or it could be if you attend a flea market you might find a seller interested in buying what you have or making a swap.

Unfortunately with the recent economic problems we’ve been having, I suspect there are more sellers and fewer buyers than there was a few years ago, so even if you do sell your stuff you may not get that much out of it.

That being said, DCC / electronic stuff would probably hold it’s value better than trains themselves. I still have several engines and buildings and a couple dozen cars from my O scale days in the seventies and eighties stored away in the basement. Those old 1974 Atlas O cars just aren’t worth much !! Only thing I was able to sell were my NYC / B&A limited edition Lionel scale cabooses.
