Looks for backdrops for S-Gauge layout

Looking for inexpensive backdrops for my new S-Gauge layout. Two sites were given to me, but the cost was over my buget. I must add that the backgrounds they had to offer were nice, but too much over my price limit. I do recall a company in the 70’s that offered nice backgrounds, but I don’t recall the name or if they are around anymore. They offered a tank farm that you were able to change the name of oil brand. Does anyone know recall these backdrops??? Thanks.

I’m looking for a backdrop for my layout also.[:|] It has to be a Arizona Mountain to desert backdrop. I’m going to use four sliding panels 4 feet by 4 feet. I did a cabinet top layout 5 feet by 16 feet four feet high for the best viewing. Take a look at the pictures I have on my blog. May be someone has some ideas. My blog is a work in progress, like my AF train layout.

Have a great week end, AZ-Flyer

Back in the Fifties, someone – I think it might have been Life-Like – made prepainted cardboard backdrops. If I recall correctly, there were several different terrains offered, from rolling wooded foothills to deserts. My family had one on our layout, and, at least to my young eyes, it looked pretty good.

I don’t know if there are still any of these surviving or not, but they were a good idea. At least one company is still producing backdrops for trains. I don’t know if this is one of the sites you’ve already looked at or not:

As I searched, I was rather surprised to find that AC Gilbert once manufactured backdrops:
