Los Angeles: What happened to the old SF/BNSF line near LAX?

I worked in El Segundo in 97-98 and remember many container trains going over the bridge at El Segundo and Aviation Boulevards and on towards LAX. I was back in the area yesterday and didn’t see any traffic on that line–and it looks like there hasn’t been traffic on it in a while. Did the Alameda Corridor replace this line? Is it still in occasional use?

H/mm you must have forgotten about the trench they built to take the trains to ELAX from the port. [:o)][:p]

All through trains have been moved to the Alameda Coridor. There is only local traffic on this line now.I don’t know if the entire line is still in service,or only parts of it.It seems the line should be kept open in case the Corridor line is ever closed by derailment.

BNSF still owns the line, but has it leased to SCRRA since 1996. It primarilly is used to switch industries at both ends out of Malabar and Watson Yards. Through Freight trains move via the Alameda Corridor now. There is no industry along Slauson Ave. in the middle anymore from Nadeau(Alameda Ave) to Lairport/El Segundo MP2.5 to MP 14.0…
