VERY cool, James. Looks like the freights are pretty much diesel, and the passenger consists electric, eh?[?]
Nice shots James !!! All that equiptment looks kinda short. Do you have lower overhead clearances over there?
Those are cool! I run these trains all the time on Trainz Railroad Simulator. Neat photos!
Yes, up until a year ago, as the last electric freight locomotives (general freight) were taken out of service and put into coal traffic, so ALL freight is dieel hauled. We Have some Diesel Hauled passenger trains which a Long distance mostly the sunlander, westlander, inlander etc as well as the tilt trains, and all suburban and inter urban is electric, interestingly the last locomotive hauled service was in 2001 and they keep a set of suburban cars just incase.
Chad, Our container flats are long enough for two 20ft containers or one 40ft container, and because of the electric lines over head, theres no double stacking! even though the overhead only goes to Rockhampton 640kms north there is alot of low bridge clearances all the way up the coast which is common all along the east coast of australia.
as for the loco’s they would be roughly the size of various US locomotives, and the rest of our rollingstock is pretty much 40ft and under.
btw, thanks for compliments.
James,
On the freight motors, I noticed the MU cables are kinda short…and they have the “dummy” plug on the same side as the main, all mounted up high on the front.
But on the GM(Clyde?) motors, they have the North American style MU, long cable that criss crosses to the other side, mounted down in the pilot under the deck.
Can they MU to each other, or only to the same style?
And, on the CityTrains…number 222 has HS on the right front side, but #s 236 and 235 do not…so what does the HS stand for?
Ed,
Your talking about the motors with the number in the 2800 series? to answer your Q all QR freight locomotives can be MU’ed to each other, i believe they carry the required cables in the cab to MU to other types.
The Citytrain SMU 222 the HS stands for High Speed as a small number are geared for 160kmph while the rest of the SMU’s are geared for 140kmph
Just a note,
The SMU (suburban multiple unit) are the ones in the 200-250 series, these are the newest about 9-12 years old
The EMU (electric multiple unit) are the ones in the 01-90 series, these are the first electrics in service about 25 years old, but still going strong! the ones that have ditch lights and the 3 tone cab are rebuilds from the last 5 years, they are progressively overhauling the entire fleet.
James.
