My apologies fellas. I misread the company I was looking for. How about:
Laser Art Gas station Number 181 687 as listed on page 528 of the 2006 Walthers catalog.
In case you missed my other post, I am looking for a discounted price on this and other structure kits made chiefly of wood. I just cannot work well with plastic.
Regards,
BB
So we kinda guessed correctly with the Branchline angle…I don’t do as much internet shopping as some of you…but I’m guessing a lot of these quality craftsman type kits don’t receive the volume wholesale discounts needed to sell cheap on the net. Mail order and internet companies need to move stuff quick, they don’t have time for the good quality kits you are looking for…at least not at a really low price. I think Branchline is more interested in keeping real train shops open than selling to the bargain basement.
Bruce, I am a huge fan of the JL Innovative wooden structures www.jlinnovative.com they have some real nice gas station models as well and also have some wonderful white metal detail parts for gas stations from previous eras. Anyway, I have had fantastic success on e-bay getting these kits, often for under half price. As always with e-bay these days, it takes patience to wait for an auction that is not Buy-it-now at full list, but they do come up and it is possible to get some great deals.
That Branchline kit looks beyond nifty to way cool.
In my experience, Branchline generally isn’t deeply discounted. Both of those links I provided in Part One show the kit available at 10% to 12% discount from Walthers’ MSRP (they’re attached to highly respected brick-and-mortar stores in Wichita and Indy). Of course, you’ll have to pay $8 or $9 shipping on top of the discounted price (but not tax or travel costs, and you can order in your underwear), which is why it’s beneficial to order several items at once. OTOH, your LHS may cut you a deal on it as a special order. Or, as mentioned, you could monitor ebay.
My apologies for my reply. I didn’t realize that you were looking for a specific model.
