Lubes & Oils + Wheel Cleaning

Need some Help! I have a Climax & Shay that have not had any lubrication. The problem is I do not know what kind to buy or where it gets used. I also have a BLI and Atlas Diesel. Do to wheels get oiled or greased? What is the best way to clean the wheel on all my engines?. Thank in advance for your help.

Do you mean the gears that turn the wheels or just the wheels?

If you mean the gears, then use some Atlas gear lubricant.

If you mean the wheels just rub some Isopropyl Alcohol on the wheels. It’ll remove all the gunk.

I have used LaBelle plastic compatable grease and oil for years with good results. Even on the brass.
The last time I was at a train show I saw some blister pacs of oil and grease packaged by scale (N) (HO). Might be worth investigating.

Labelles oil and grease are the way to go, using the plastic compatible type will assure no damage will occur if ya mess up and get it in the wrong place. just remember to use it sparingly. A little grease / oil goes along way.

I use VCR grease from my electronics repair workbench.
Available form most electronics parts supplier. Called “molytone” grease at
