A few years ago I bought a Bachman On30 set to run under the Christmas tree. The entire set including the locomotive has been residing in the attic, in the original box, for the past three or four years. What lubrication procedures would y’all suggest prior to running the trains again this Christmas? I appreciate the help and wish everyone a very Merry Christmas.
It has been my experience that Bachmann lubrication instructions are in the box, so check there. A small instruction booklet should have been included which shows an exploded diagram of the locomotive, lubrication points or instructions, and their warranty terms.
If this is missing, my general rule is, “lubricate everything that moves.” I prefer Dexron III Mercon Automatic Transmission Fluid applied with the tip of a shiskabob skewer or toothpick.
Thank you for the response…actually Plan “B” (lubricate everything that moves) should solve the problem.

Not really. Unless you use an all synthetic lube, like ATF, it will turn into gum and gubber up everything. Strip out all the “natural” lube in there, lube everything that moves with synthectic lube, and then every year just lube everything that moves with ATF
