Lunch With The Chief in Harrisburg, PA

We are planning a lunch of forum members & friends in Harrisburg, PA on March 24th, at 1:00 PM. The location is Doc Hollidays Steak House, 469 Eisenhower Boulevard.

Of course the subject of discussion will be TRAINS, which makes this a legal post on the forum.

At the present time I have 6 on the list. If you will be attending please send me an email so we know about how many will be there.

Thanks,

I will be unable to have lunch with the Chief. I am polishing the clothes hangers in my closet that day. Sorry! Maybe next time. [:D]

I will not be able to attend the lunch with the Chief either. I am scheduled to alphabetize my ear wax collection. Sorry, I’m booked!

Jim

Wish I could attend…unfortunately the drive is a bit much. I could use some good ole train chat. Isn’t there some sort of train museum downtown where they have a GG1?

Bruce Webster

In the Harrisburg Transportation Center, which once was known as the train station, is the official state locomotive of Pennsylvania - a GG1. It’s under the waiting platforms and is semi-exposed to the elements. The shell is somewhat banged up like it’s been sledgehammered in spots. For all that, I’d never seen a GG1 in the flesh (so to speak) and I was happy to get the chance.

I am very sorry, but I will not be able to attend the lunch with the Chief. I will be busy supervising, my wife, as she rotates the tires on the car. Thanks for the invitation.

Sorta like my shell after years of marrital bliss…and I’m nowhere near as old as a GG1 [;)]

I’ve yet to have the pleasure of viewing a real GG1. Maybe I’ll check it out when I’m back in the Harrisburg area next fall

thanks for the heads up John, gives me enough time to schedule some dental work for that date and time.

I have had the pleasure of seeing a GG1 “in the flesh.” I have not had the pleasure of meeting Chief. If I lived closer, I would join in the festivities but it is too close to York to make the trip.

I probably have to surrender my “Buckeye” card again.

Hey guys, There are quite a few GG1s scatered around the Northest, but only one Chief.

BTW there is a nice one at the PA Railroad Museum.

Sorry, can’t make the trip. I have met the Chief and he is a fine gentleman. I will stay back here with the reserves to protect the South and to organize a rescue party should the Chief be held against his will. Make sure you have plenty of Grits and Sweat tea available.

Dennis

Also in the Harrisburg, Pa. train station along with a little red caboose, I am told.

You are correct Laz. Also the former Harris Tower Next to the station is being restored by the Harrisburg Chapter of the NRHS. Not sure when it is open to the public.

Maybe a field trip?

Sounds good to me! We could do it before or after lunch… Maybe hit a train shop or two too…

TOOOt TOOOt!!!

Brent

I WANT to be there, and I actually want to be seated at the right hand of the CHIEF, so he can bestow his greatness upon me. And maybe he’ll let me bore him with the story on how I once caught a bass at my great uncle’s farm pond in West Virginia. And maybe we’ll pal around at the ENOLA railyard bridge…anyone know the tune to Courtship of Eddie’s Father? "People let me tell you 'bout my besssst friend…

Fifedog, you are already doing a great job of emulating the Chief by posting such a condescending reply. Good job! [:)]

Doggone it anyway, that’s the day I spray my snow shovel with WD40 and store it for the season. Thanks anyway, perhaps another time.
Jon

Now Uncle Buckeye, I wasn’t being con…condes… whatever that big word was. I just think it will be interesting to study other cultures.

Fifedog, after your lunch with the Chief you will have enough knowledge to be awarded a PhD. in Southern Redneck Cultural Studies. Take good notes. [(-D]
