LW trans. to work modern diesel....sequence for sounds

I was told that if you had a older LW transformer that you could tap into sounds of a modern “mth” diesel (#2004 GP-20) bell, cab talk & others, uncoupleing, etc. has anyone done this and know the sequence of button holds & double clicks and stuff. I was told start up train and hold button for bell (doesnt) move & then to neutral, chat or talk, something to that effect.

thx, Cade

Protosound works in Digital and also analog mode. Every old transformer is said to be analog, so it should be possible. The manual, with aal the button combinations etc for your locomotive can be downloaded from www.mth-railking.com .Simply fill in your engine type or product number in the product locator and choose one. Under the description of the engine you’ll find 1,2 or 3 symbols, for partslist, manual and other stuff. If you click manual, you recieve the full manual for the engine in PDF.
In protosound 1, coupler is operated in Neutral, power up above 14 volts, press whistle and whistle again, coupler opens. Crewtalk is in neutral at random.

Your LW transformer has a button for whistle or horn only, no bell button. MTH loco features are controlled by sequences of BOTH bell and horn signals so you will need to add a bell button to get them to work. The easiest method is to find a Lionel “sound activation” button which will give you a bell signal. Then just follow the manual instructions for the proper sequence for each feature.

THE MTH SITE WONT GIVE ME ANYTHING. IT DOESNT HAVE ANY #'S BY IT WHEN I SEARCH THE ENGINE (ENGINE #2004 W.P. MTH PROTOSOUND EMD GP-20) IS WHAT I HAVE AND NOT GIVING ME ANYTHING EVEN UNDER ADVANCED SEARCH. I’LL KEEP TRYING!!!

“THE MTH SITE WONT GIVE ME ANYTHING.”

Try searching just “GP-20” and pick your engine from the list. Protosound commands are the same for all engines though so you really don’t need your exact manual…any engine manual will give the info you want. Remember you need a bell button for any of the sequences to work…your whistle button will only blow the horn.
