LWA passes

Well known Midwest railfan LaVerne (Andy) Andreesen died Thursday at his home, I know that I will miss him as he was always happy to share with other fans. He taught me quite a bit. Rest in peace Andy!

Services will be on Monday in Waverly, IA

LaVerne William Andreessen, 70, of Waverly, Iowa, died Thursday, April 9, 2009, at his residence.

LaVerne was born December 1, 1938, the son of William J. and Emma A. (Meester) Andreessen in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He worked as a Relief Depot Agent during his junior and senior years of high school and graduated from Dike High School in 1957. He attended Iowa State Teacher’s College (UNI) and graduated in 1961 with his BA. During his college years he worked for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad as a Relief Brakeman. From 1961 to 1965 LaVerne taught Business at West Delaware High School in Manchester. He spent his summers working as a Relief Depot Agent for the Illinois Central Railroad. He earned his MA from State College of Iowa (UNI) in 1966. On August 3, 1968, he was united in marriage to Donna Jean Robinson in Sheffield, Iowa. LaVerne would go on to work as an Accounting Assistant Professor at UNI College of Business Administration; was a CPA for Gosling & Co.; controller for Hutchison Lumber Company; Professor of Accounting at Wartburg College in Waverly from 1975-1980. From 1980 to the present time, LaVerne was the Assistant Professor of Accounting at UNI; receiving Professor Emeritus status in 2007.

LaVerne was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waverly, Chicago North Western Historical Society, Camerail Club, and Cedar Valley Railfans Association. He enjoyed trains, railfanning, attending and crying auctions, WWII history, reading, and taking the dog for walks.

Survivors include his wife Donna of Waverly, daughters; Rebecca Sue (Larry) Gardemann of Vinton, Iowa, and Nicole Lynn Andreessen of Waverly, one brother; Lowell D. (Patricia) Andreessen of Reedsburg, Wisconsin, one stepsister; Shirl
