They both look great. Can’t wait to hear the sound systems on these models.

Enough with the J’s. Lets have a N&W 4-8-0 like the one at strauburg,PA.

You should make a video for them

I’d sure like to see some engines that are more useable for multiple roads than road specific ones. A UP 4-12-2? Gimmie a break - how many people can use that even UP modelers?

ANOTHER “J” and ANOTHER specialty behemoth? Why not some small- to medium-size locos that can fit on more layouts and have broader applicability?

I saw the pre-production sample of the UP 4-12-2 at the Amherst Show last month. It was impressive looking indeed! I asked the rep how they planned to get that long wheel base around the curves. He claimed that the drivers were “articulated” and the wheel base could bend in the middle. Sounds like a daring concept to introduce and I sure hope it works. This engine should make a great stablemate on layouts that run Big Boys and Challengers!

I tend to agree with the others about the questionable market for these “speciality” locos. Where are the standard types of smaller locos like a good, small drivered Mogul 2-6-0 or the common Prairie 2-6-2, or even a small boilered Consolidation 2-8-0? Both of the Bachmann 2-8-0’s are models of very large boilered types. And what about the work horse of the entire railroad during the steam era the Mikado 2-8-2 in any other boiler configeration besides the USRA type. A straight non tapered boiler 2-8-2 would be a sure hit, especially if it had a Harriman look to it.
The USRA designs were great looking, but they make up probably 65% of whats available in today’s market. How about some of the Baldwin, Lima and Alco standard designs for steam locomotives that were NOT USRA based designs??

Strongly agree that we need more smaller engines, used by many Roads. How about an Atlantic or Ten-Wheeler with factory-installed DCC and sound??

N&W 611 is a great engine to offer, as the model will appeal to both steam-era modellers, and to 1980’s modellers who would like to model 611 in it’s later steam excursion role. Similarly, I’d like to see MTH or someone come out with a model of Milwaukee 261 - would look great with those Walthers Hiawatha cars!!

Re James Valle’s report: “Articulating” a six-axle siderod-connected loco sure needs some trick. It seems a given that the six axles MUST remain parallel for the siderods to work. Is this “articulation” just another name for lateral freedom of the axles?

They are both beautiful locomotives. MTH does a great job with any thing they make in any scale. I too agree with the above. It would be nice to get some modern 4-4-2’s, 2-6-0’s, or a USRA 4-6-2.

Impressive! I would sure like one of these locos, the sound and details are amazing!

I’m extremely excited for the 4-12-2… Saving pennies for this one.

I have been hoping someone would come out with a UP 4-12-2 that was not a brass model, and that I could afford for years. I will have to start saving my money now, and put in my order.

We have enough USRA-steamers! I am waiting long time for the UP 4-12-2 and the MTH-Model seems to be an impressive one.
Thank you MTH! I hope also for some Milwaukee steamers in the future…

At least you guys get some love in this category. The PRR, N&W, UP, & ATSF names sell, while it is perceived that others won’t. There’s little to no chance that a Great Northern or Northern Pacific steamer of any size will be made in an affordable plastic model.

I agree with some of the above comments. There are so many excellent models of smaller to mid-sized locos that have yet to be produced. I would love to see a B&O “E” class consolidation or even a nice “Q” class mikado (with the vandy tender!)

As a C & O modeler, I ask who might make a C & O Greenbrier?

There are any number of finely modeled 4-8-4s out here, but none that looks, to me, like the Greenbriers.

I’ve seen the video on mth’s website about the J and it looks really cool.
I would like to purchase one but it’s a little too much $$$.

Happy model railroading,
Brennen
