M.W. Hemphill

Hello

I’m just a lurker, not a poster, on this forum. I learn much here, and it is enjoyable to listen to people who are, or have been, in the industry. I get a real “feel” for working on the railroad from many of you, and I love the technical discussions.

Of course, M.W. Hemphill always has much to offer. I know that many of you here are on a first name basis with each other, and know him. I guess I have not been here long enough.

So, M.W. Hemphill, your knowledge of railroading is obviously extensive, both the business and the technology. I do know your past position at Trains magazine, but you are often able to add personal experiences to your posts.

Perhaps there are other newer forum members like me that wonder what paths life took you down, where you were able to gain such knowledge and experience in the railroad industry. I’m not asking for any personal information, just a little of how you got here.

I hope I’m not stepping over a line here.

If they put down a line, we just move it out of the way. So welcome and hope you post again.

I would like to see more people who “lurk” ask questions. The people on here know their beans and I keep running out of appropriate questions!

At one point or another, Mark worked on locomotives.
