Ma & Pa Passenger Car Colour

Hi this is my first post to this forum and as you have probably noticed from my odd spelling of colour I live in the UK. I’ve been modelling US narrow gauge for a few years now but recently acquired some Bachmann HO Ma & Pa locomotives. I’ve found many black and white photographs of rolling stock and some colour photographs of preserved boxcars and diesels. I’ve seen a photograph of a model of one of the gas electrics and that was green. The book by George Hilton said the original passenger cars were Tuscan Red. My query (I seem to have taken along time to get to it!) is does anyone know what colour the passenger cars were in the 1940s and 1950s? Best wishes Tony

Tony,

There is a Ma and Pa RR group on Yahoo (MaPARailroad). There is at least one dscussion of Passenger car colors there. Apparently it depends on the time period that you are modeling, either dark green or burgendy.

Mike, Thank you for pointing me to the Yahoo group. It looks as if I’ll be in the dark green years. There was some information there about roof colour as well. Best wishes Tony

From one Tony to another, let me say you have picked my hometown favorite, the Ma &Pa.

The Yahoo group has folks that are expert in all things Ma &Pa.

I am not an expert, but I also love the MPA. I just got my MPA Ten wheeler in the Mail tonite, will try it out in the AM.

By all means, join the Yahoo Group and ask questions!

Best Regards,
